A Graduation Day

This month of March marks a milestone for some students. Enter the graduates of 2011. This is one of the memorable day for the students. On this proud day, stand tall, flash a winning smile to accept the diploma ( additional honors, if any) that the student have worked hard for. I remembered the time I graduated from my college I really worked and study hard because I am a working student. I worked in the morning and I study in the evening. On that day of my graduation I am so proud of myself even if I didn't received any medals and I said to myself "well done" I am really happy on my graduation day.

Fuel Prices

I went to a gasoline station today to fill up the truck and I was very shock of the fuel prices today it was very high. I don't know how people can still afford to buy fuel. I heard from the Energy Department said gasoline inventories fell 5.3 million barrels last week and gasoline stocks are down 8.9 percent during the last five weeks. So we need to limit our usage of fuel. It's supply and demand. From now on I need to walk or ride the horses it's save money and walking is good you.

FREEZING VEGETABLES

Even after vegetables are picked, the enzymes in them make them lose flavor and color and sometimes make them tough- even at freezer temperatures. Therefore the enzymes must be stopped in their tracks by being heated for a few minutes ( how many minutes depends on the size and texture of the vegetables) before the vegetables are cooled quickly and packed. This preheating is necessary for virtually all vegetables; green (sweet) peppers are the notable exception.

Practically all vegetables are safely blanched in boiling water. Use a large kettle which has a wire basket that fits down in it. Put prepared vegetables in the basket- not more than a pound or two at a time- and lower it into boiling water. Start counting the time at once. Shake the basket to let heat reach all parts of it's load. When the specified time is up, lift out the basket and immediately dunk the vegetables in ice-cold water to cool them fast.

If you live more than 5,000 feet above sea level, preheat vegetables 1 minute longer than the time called for.

BEANS:

Prepare :
Wash, cut or snap the ends off, then cut in 1" or 2" pieces, or in lengthwise strips (frenching), or leave whole if they're very young and tender.

Blanch :
In boiling water - for 3 minutes. Cool in ice water immediately, drain well.

Pack :
Leave 1/2 inch headroom
Seal : freeze.

BROCCOLI:

Prepare :
Peel coarse stalks, trimming off leaves and blemishes: split if necessary. Separate or cut into reasonable size pieces.

Blanch :
In boiling water-3 minutes for stalks. ( reduce blanching time for cut-up or chopped.) Cool Immediately in ice water; drain.

Pack :
Leave no headroom for spears or large chunks; arrange long stalks so blossom ends are divided between either end of the container. Leave 1/2 inch headroom for cut-up or chopped ( they have less air space.)

Seal; freeze.

Primary Solution To The Global Food Crisis

Many scientists are saying, is to gradually convert from a meat diet to a vegetarian diet. " If we were vegetarians, we could banish hunger from this earth. Children would be born and grow up well-nourished, and they would live happier, heal their lives. Animals would be free to live. Meat is the mist uneconomical and inefficient food we can eat, the cost of one pound of meat protein is twenty times higher than equally nutritional plant protein. Only 10% of the protein and calories we feed to our livestock is recovered in the meat we eat, that is, 90% goes down the drain.Acres of land are used to raise livestock for food. These acres of land could be utilized far more productively if planted with grains, beans, and other legumes for humans to eat directly. For example, one acre used to raise to steer will provide only about one pound of protein, but this same land planted with soybeans will produce 17 pounds of protein. In other words, to eat meat, we need to used 17 times as much land as the amount needed to plant soybeans are more nutritious, contain less fat, and are free from the poisons of meat. United Nations has strongly recommended that people should cut down on their meat consumption.
